The project provides support to the Comisión Nacional para el Desarrollo y Vida sin Drogas in implementing its mandated role to coordinate, promote and monitor activities related to the National Drug Control Strategy, and to promote sustainable economic development in areas affected by coca production. The project has provided substantive support in the restructuring process of DEVIDA, not only by providing audiovisual equipment and computer facilities, but also by training personnel in strategic planning and project management. This project has also supported DEVIDA in its efforts to organize key events, such as the international seminar on the role of alternative development in drug control held in Germany, and the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which takes place on 26 June every year. Furthermore, UNODC assisted DEVIDA in the elaboration of the “National Drug Control Strategy for 2002-2007”, and provided technical and logistical support in the organization of the October 2002 “Meeting of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies of the Asia and the Pacific Region” (HONLEA).
